Blogging involves many tasks – from conceptualization to creation to promotion – but at the center of it all, I believe, is writing.

It is true that you don’t have to be the best writer in the world to be a good blogger. You don’t have to be a badge-carrying member of the Grammar Police. It does pay to work on your writing skills, though, and when it comes to that, it’s best to listen to the some of the most recognized writers.

If you need a bit of inspiration or you want to pick up an insight or two, read these writing quotes for bloggers. You’ll walk away a better equipped writer.

1. Read the blogs of the pros. Learn from their style. Learn from their content. Read online newspapers. Be informed. Read books. Read whatever you can get your hands on.

Stephen King: “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”

2. Many articles by experts say that we need to tell a story to create “quality content”. This is why.

Philip Pullman: “After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.”

3. It’s tempting to live in a bubble where all you focus on is your blogging. Listen to one of the greatest writers ever. Have a life.

Henry David Thoreau: “How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”

4. Stephen King is right – you have to read and learn the tricks of the trade. But believe in yourself and exude confidence. It’ll get you a long way.

Ernest Hemingway: “It’s none of their business that you have to learn how to write. Let them think you were born that way.”

5. Brevity.

Elmore Leonard: “My most important piece of advice to all you would-be writers: When you write, try to leave out all the parts readers skip.”

6. So which one are you? Pro tip: Always read the preview of your post before publishing.

Jarod Kintz: “There Are Two Typos Of People In This World: Those Who Can Edit And Those Who Can’t”

7. The next time you have a block, bear this in mind.

Charles Bukowski: “Writing about a writer’s block is better than not writing at all.”

8. Don’t feel like writing? Remember this.

Desiderius Erasmus: “The desire to write grows with writing.”

9. Negative comments. They can hurt, can’t they? But, as this quote says, better to get those comments – it means someone’s reading you.

Samuel Johnson: “I would rather be attacked than unnoticed. For the worst thing you can do to an author is to be silent as to his works.”

10. I’m so guilty of this!

Mark Twain: “One should never use exclamation points in writing. It is like laughing at your own joke.”
